Fishmongers are well supported for training and qualifications. Apprenticeships are available throughout the UK and there are a number of training centres that deliver knife skills and filelting training. Billingsgate's get into fishmongering course is a useful new entrant programme.

The Fishmongers Company's MFS programme for fishmonger recognition is avialbe for those that are seeking professional recognition at all levels in the sector.

North West Seafood Training Centre - Blackpool College have access to an experienced filleting trainer and can offer training.

Grimsby Seafood Village Training School - the main filleting training centre in the NE of England.

This Seafish approved training centre - is able to offer filleting and fishmongering training, and is the main centre for fish smoking training in the UK.

Fish and Shellfish Traineeships

These will provide opportunities to experience working in various sectors of the seafood industry including fishmongering and fish processing. Traineeships will be piloted in 2016 in Grimsby in Lancashire by Blackpool College and the NW Seafood Training Centre.
