There are three main elements to training in fish and shellfish

They are

  • Improve Proficiency Qualifications and the related Fish and Shellfish Apprenticeships - the up to date replacement for NVQs. Available in fish and shellfish.
  • Training courses available through the Academy
  • The Seafood Training Network for Wales - are you a member? The Network will become a major force for training in Wales during 2015-18.

Apprenticeships -General

  • Welsh Assembly Government - Young Recruits programme
    • Aged 16 to 24;
    • Wage subsidy of £50/week for up to 52 weeks;
    • Expires 31st March 2013.

     

  • Apprenticeships - Key Points for employers
    • Training costs are usually funded via the WAG;
    • Steps to recruiting an apprentice;
      • Find a suitable provider (contact Seafish or your local Seafood Industry training provider or Seafish recognised apprenticeship provider);
      • Advertise your vacancy on the Apprenticeship Matching Service;

    • Fish and Shellfish for Levels 2 and Level 3, intermediate and advanced apprenticeships.
    • Except for fish and chips at level 2 where Food Industry Skills may be more suitable for customer service roles - see these Friers Leaflets. NB: Plans are underway to improve the level 2 fish and shellfish framework for fish friers outside of Scotland. Work should be completed by autumn 2013.
