Seafood Programmes - Quality Assessment

Level 3 Award in Fish and Shellfish Quality Assessment

Accredited 09 - Aug - 2011 -

NB: This qualification is not currently active or available.

A range of training programmes were developed by Seafish in 2011 to cater to the needs of all those in the fish and shellfish industry who want to be able to assess the quality of fish and shellfish.

Seafood Quality Assessment courses have been available from Seafish approved trainers since 2007, and while these courses are accredited by Seafish and valued by the industry, they have not led to a nationally recognised qualification. In 2009 the Seafood Training Academy recognised the Introductory programme, and in 2010 an opportunity arrived to gain national recognition for the Advanced Seafood Quality Assessment training programme in the form of an Improve Vocational Qualification.

This Improve Vocational Qualification (VRQ) is based around two Underpinning Knowledge (UK) units and three Vocational Skills units. Only 2 of these VS units are required to complete the qualification.
